April

Armenia

It is beginning to warm up a little in the Armenian Spring but it is still difficult to visit the higher altitude regions.  A visit to the capital Yerevan and some nearby sights could be arranged, however; temperatures in Yerevan are fairly similar to those in the UK during this time.

Bhutan

Spring begins by the end of February and lasts till the end of May. Rhododendrons should be in bloom on the high passes.  April is therefore an excellent time of the year to visit Bhutan. The Paro and Punakha festivals, or tsechus, are held in the Spring (March/April); we are awaiting confirmation of the 2012 dates.

Botswana

April and May are both delightful months to visit Botswana, marked by moderate temperatures with the average ranging from 15 to 31 degrees Celsius.

Burma (Myanmar)

We do not recommend visiting Burma from April to September, when the temperatures are very high (reaching up towards 40 degrees Celsius in April); the rainy season begins in May and lasts throughout the summer months.

China

Spring and Autumn are the best months to visit China in terms of the weather. Days should be warm and sunny with only occasional rain.  This is, however, the peak season and some of the more popular tourist sites (the Great Wall or the Terracotta Warriors, for example) can be very crowded.

Egypt

April is one of the best times to visit Egypt, before the really hot weather begins. It should be hot and sunny throughout the country. Early in the month there is a risk of sandstorms (the 'Khamsin') which generally occur in March and April.

Georgia

We do not recommend any extensive journeys in Georgia during the winter months due to the adverse weather conditions, especially in the higher altitude regions.  A visit to the capital Tbilisi and some nearby sights could be arranged, however; temperatures in Tbilisi are fairly similar to those in the UK during this time.

Iceland

Winter in Iceland is very cold, with heavy snowfalls and limited daylight.  Outside Reykjavík most of the hotels and guesthouses are closed.  In the capital itself, however, there are less crowds, prices are lower and the local excursions to places like Gullfoss, Geysir and the Blue Lagoon operate on a daily basis.

India

North: As summer approaches the temperatures are getting higher (up to 40 degrees Celsius), but there is little humidity and skies are clear.
Himalayas - still cool with occasional snow on the higher ground, but many people find this a lovely time to head for the hills.
South: April is a good time to visit the south, although some people find the temperatures difficult (up to 40 degrees Celsius and quite humid).

Iran

Spring is the ideal time to visit Iran. The winter is over and the really hot days of summer have not yet begun. Days should be warm, sunny and dry.

Jordan and the Holy Land

April is an excellent time of the year to visit Jordan and the Holy Land. Days should be warm, sunny and dry (although it can be cool during the night at higher altitudes (Amman, Jerusalem, Petra).  For marathon enthusiasts the challenging 50km Dead Sea Ultra Marathon takes place on the second Friday in April each year.

Kenya

Kenya straddles the Equator and is sunny and hot for most of the year.  From late March, through April and May, and into June, Kenya experiences the 'Long Rains'.  Although it doesn't rain incessantly, it isn't the best time to visit Kenya and we do not recommend that you travel during this period.

Lebanon

Lebanon has a Mediterranean climate, with variations because of the mountainous interior.  April is an excellent time to visit; it is sunny and warm on the coast, although there is the occasional harsh wind or 'Khamsin' which blows up from Egypt.  In the mountains it is sunny and warm during the day, but there is still snow on the higher peaks.

Namibia

Namibia is located in the tropics and is an all-year-round destination. In April and May the light rains of January to March are over and the atmosphere is much clearer.  These months probably offer the best temperatures of the year with pleasant days and warm evenings.  Apart from Easter, it's a time when fewer tourists are travelling so it isn't too crowded.

Nepal

February to May are excellent months to visit Nepal. This is the end of the dry season and days should be sunny, dry and warm with good visibility.

Syria

Spring and autumn in Syria offer warm, bright and sunny days and minimal rain. April is therefore an excellent month for a visit.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's temperature varies little throughout the year, with maximum day-time temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, with the minimum usually above 20 degrees.  It is generally slightly cooler in the hills.  April should be sunny and dry.

Thailand

April is the middle of the hot season, with temperatures reaching up to 35 degrees Celsius and humidity fairly high. Rain is always a possibility.

Tanzania

Generally speaking the highlands (where the gameviewing takes place) enjoy a temperate climate, whilst the coast is hot and humid year round.  April is the rainy season, when occasionally the rains will turn the roads to mud.  Gameviewing, however, is still good, prices are extremely low and the parks are not crowded.

Tibet

We do not recommend travelling to Tibet at this time of the year. Best months are May to September.

Uzbekistan

Although the extremely low temperatures of the winter are past, it can still be cold in April. Best months to travel are May, June and September.

Vietnam

There is no ideal time to visit Vietnam as there are distinct regional variations between the Northern, Central and Southern regions. April is one of the best times to go as it is one of the warmest and driest times of the year, although there can be occasional rain showers around Hue and Hoi An.
