Tatev Monastery
Armenia Holidays - The remote Tatev Monastery
Deep in the mountains of southern Armenia, tucked away in one of the most magical and serene corners of the world, lies Tatev Monastery. This 9th century monastic complex, perched high above the picturesque Vorotan River Gorge, is one of the most important spiritual centres in Armenian history. Within its walls some of the greatest medieval thinkers wrote missives to the world leaders of their time and penned scholarly treatises that comprise an important part of the world's cultural heritage.
THE WORLD'S LONGEST AERIAL TRAMWAY
Due to its forbidding location, Tatev Monastery has historically been extremely difficult to visit, but today it is linked to the world by an engineering marvel - the Wings of Tatev Aerial Tramway. Spanning 5.7 kilometres across the Vorotan River Gorge, the tramway was unveiled in October 2010 and was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest non-stop double track cable car in the world.
EXTEND YOUR ARMENIA TOUR
World Discovery can add a visit to this amazing destination to any of the tours shown on our website. We would recommend extending your stay in Armenia by two nights to be able to fit this in without too exhausting a journey. Please ask for details.
