Bhutan Tours - Ta Dzong

High above the Paro Valley sits Ta Dzong. a former watchtower which is now Bhutan’s National Museum. Built in 1641 it once guarded the Paro Dzong on the hillside below.  When visiting the museum you will walk in a clockwise direction around the central images.  On display are early stone implements, thangkas* (both ancient and modern), religious statues, musical instruments, an extensive philatelic collection, weapons and clothing. On the 6th floor, a doorway leads frim the gallery to the 'Tree of Life' (below left), an elaborate 4-sided carving depicting the history of Buddhism.
