The Dead Sea Ultra Marathon
Official Logo of the event
If you've taken part in the London Marathon or similar events, how about stretching yourself a little more by joining the 50km (yes, fifty kilometre!) Dead Sea Ultra Marathon on Friday 6 April 2012? The race begins in Jordan's capital city of Amman (altitude 850m) and runs down to the historic Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth (408m below sea level). At least it's all downhill!
Proceeds go to the Society for the Care of Neurological Patients (SCNP), founded in 1986 and under the honorary patronage of HRH Prince Hassan, to assist neurological patients through providing financial help for necessary surgical procedures, as well as to increase awareness of neurological diseases and traumas.
Contact www.deadseamarathon.com or the Jordan Tourist Office (www.visitjordan.com) for further details.
World Discovery can put together a tour of Jordan for you before or after the race - most people want to combine the marathon with some sightseeing and not to be missed, of course, is the rock-carved city of Petra, recently voted one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World".
