Armenia - Journey through an Ancient Land
Armenia Holidays - Noravank Monastery (12th century)
World Discovery Armenia holidays will introduce you
to the world's first Christian nation (officially recorded as 301 A.D. when Gregory the Navigator introduced the religion to the country). Early Christian influences are evident in the numerous stone churches and monasteries that dot the countryside, often in remote, inaccessible and spectacular locations.
This landlocked nation dominated by the High Caucasus offers glorious mountain scenery, such as the snow-capped Mount Aragatz (4,090m/13,080ft) and Lake Sevan, the second highest freshwater lake in the world. Located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and the Middle East, the country's many historical remains reflect the wide range of influences. Perhaps most famous of all is the wonderful Hellenistic temple at Garni (1st century A.D.), one of several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Armenia.
You're guaranteed a warm welcome from the hospitable Armenian people. Make sure you try some of the traditional Armenian dishes such as khorovats (succulent pieces of meat on skewers) or the excellent freshly-baked flatbread known as lavash. And don't forget to sample Armenian brandy, a favourite tipple of Winston Churchill!
