Georgia: Land of the Golden Fleece

Georgia was the world's earliest Christian nation (4th century AD) and represents a cultural crossroads where Europe, Asia and the Middle East converge.  Dominated by the snow peaks of the High Caucasus range, this beautiful country with its friendly and hospitable people is now opening up to tourism and has much to offer - distinct customs and traditions found nowhere else on earth, unique architecture, a delicious cuisine and superb local wines (Georgia's wine-making traditions go back more than 2,000 years).

According to legend it was to Georgia (the Kingdom of Colchis) that Jason and the Argonauts came in search of the Golden Fleece. Georgia was also an important stage on the ancient Silk Road that linked the Western World to the Orient.. 

These days Georgia is easily accessible with direct flights from the UK on four days of the week - a journey of just 5 hours.  What's more, British citzens don't need a visa.
