Roy Davies, Founder of World Discovery

Whilst it's possible in Iceland to organise a private journey, accompanied by your own driver and guide, as in other World Discovery destinations, it's a very expensive option.  For this reason we have teamed up with a well-established Iceland operator who offers good quality group coach tours with English-speaking guides.  Departures are guaranteed and the group size will vary from 8 to a maximum of 30 participants.  This is undoubtedly the most economic way of visiting Iceland's fabulous attractions.  For the more adventurous there is also the option of self-drive itineraries around Iceland.

Don't be put off by the name.  Yes, Iceland can be cold and icy in the winter months, but for much of the year this volcanic island near the Arctic Circle is a beautiful wilderness of bubbling hot springs, mudpools, lava fields and thundering waterfalls - a pristine landscape that is the most sparsely populated in Europe and also one of the most amazing...just 3 hours from the UK but a world away in terms of its unique contrasts and extremes.

Reykjavík, the world's most northerly capital, is the gateway to this geological wonderland.  Housing virtually half of the island-nation's population, it is a modern city with a lively nightlife, particularly on Friday and Saturday.  It's within easy reach of some of Iceland's greatest attractions - Gullfoss, the 'Golden Falls'; Geysir, which gives its name to water spouts throughout the world; and Þingvellir National Park, site of the Viking Parliament, founded in 930 AD.

Iceland's famous 860-mile Ring Road gives access to the other wonders of this incredible land - the rugged Snæfellsnes peninsula; Lake Mývatn with its prolific birdlife; Húsavík, where you can go whale-watching; Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe; and the massive Vatnajökull glacier.
