The Winter Palace was built in 1886 on the banks of the Nile, surrounded by tropical gardens, and has played host to the rich and famous for more than 130 years.  It is located in the centre of Luxor town close to the XVIIIth dynasty Luxor Temple.  It is now part of the prestigious Sofitel hotel group.

The hotel has 86 guest rooms and 6 suites.  The World Discovery prices are based on a Classic Garden View Room, which is 24 square metres in size, has plasma TV, high speed internet access, minibar and in-room safe.  The rooms have ensuite bathroom and shower; some have a small balcony.

The historic 1886 a la carte restaurant serves dinner only (by candlelight).  Advance reservation is required. The dress code for men requires a jacket and tie, and smart dress for ladies.  L'Oasis, surrounded by palm trees beside the cool waters of the swimming pool, is an ideal spot to relax and appreciate the best cuisine.  Open for lunch and dinner, with snacks available in between, and a wide choice of drinks. Less formal than the 1886, but still intimate, La Corniche Restaurant enjoys an elegant, understated atmosphere. Open for breakfast and a la carte dinner.

The Central Park Bar is set in the gorgeous Winter Palace gardens, while the ever-popular Nile Terrace, overlooking the river and the West Bank, is the perfect place to watch the sunset whilst enjoying High Tea.  The Royal Bar is an elegant English-style bar offering cocktails and other refreshments and classical piano music every night.  Traditional afternoon tea is served at the Lounge every day.
