Nubian Museum, Aswan

Opened as recently as 1998, this small UNESCO-sponsored museum is housed in a modern building based on traditional Nubian architecture and contains a superb collection of some 5,000 artefacts from the region. The museum is well laid out and the exhibits are labelled in English. Amongst the top attractions of the museum are a quartzite statue of a Kushite priest of Amun, an eight metre high statue of Ramses II, horse armour from the Ballana tombs and frescoes from the Coptic churches of Nubia.
