The spactacular Jain temples at Ranakpur, about 90km north of Udaipur, are well worth a visit and offer some superb marble work.  The temples are hidden away in a beautiful wooded valley in the Aravali Hills.  The main temple was constructed in the early 15th century and has some wonderful friezes illustrating the life of the four-faced Adinath, the first tirthankara, in the Jain religion a human being who achieves enlightenment through asceticism and who then becomes a role-model teacher for those seeking spiritual guidance.There are 3 other lesser temples.
