National Museum of Beirut
Bronze Age statue from Byblos
PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR
Beirut's excellent National Museum contains an impressive and important collection of archaeological artefacts, statues and sarcophagi from all over Lebanon, and ranging in age from pre-history to the Mamluk period in the 16th century. Its two floors of exhibits are attractively laid out and clearly labelled in English, French and Arabic.
Located close to the former 'Green Line' which divided the city in the Civil War, the museum and many of its artefacts were badly damaged during the conflict, but prolonged renovation work has restored the museum to its former glory. A fascinating short documentary entitled 'Revival' is screened every hour showing how the staff saved the collection from destruction and helped in the museum's recovery.
There is a small gift shop on the Ground Floor near the entrance.
Opening hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Mondays and Holidays.
Includes private transportation, guide and entrance fees.
