March

Bhutan

Spring begins by the end of February and lasts till the end of May.  March is therefore an excellent time of the year to visit Bhutan.

Botswana

This is one of the hottest times of the year with substantial rain, but is quite a popular time to visit Botswana.

Egypt

March is one of the best times to visit Egypt.  It should be hot and sunny throughout the country.  Towards the end of the month there is a risk of sandstorms (the 'Khamsin') which generally occur in March and April.

Georgia

We do not recommend any extensive journeys in Georgia during the winter months due to the adverse weather conditions, especially in the higher altitude regions.  A visit to the capital Tbilisi and some nearby sights could be arranged, however; temperatures in Tbilisi are fairly similar to those in the UK during this time.

Iceland

Winter in Iceland is very cold, with heavy snowfalls and limited daylight.  Outside Reykjavík most of the hotels and guesthouses are closed.  In the capital itself, however, there are less crowds, prices are lower and the local excursions to places like Gullfoss, Geysir and the Blue Lagoon operate on a daily basis.

India

North: March is a good time to visit northern India, with hot days, clear skies and little rain.  Himalayas - we do not recommend visiting the hill areas in March as conditions are wintry and cold.
South: March is a good time to visit the south, although some people find the temperatures difficult (up to 40 degrees Celsius). 

Iran

Early March is still cold and occasionally rainy, but towards the end of the month the weather becomes drier and warmer as Spring begins.  Late March is therefore a pleasant time to visit Iran, although it can still be cold at night.    

Jordan and the Holy Land

March is an excellent time to visit Jordan and the Holy Land.  It's still likely to be cold at the higher altitudes (Amman, Jerusalem, Petra), with occasional rain and even snow, but most days should be warm and sunny with good visibility.

Kenya

Kenya straddles the Equator and is sunny and hot for most of the year.  January, February and March are the hottest and driest months of the year, and also the busiest as far as tourism is concerned.  Towards the end of March, the 'Long Rains' begin, going through to mid June.

Lebanon

Lebanon has a Mediterranean climate, with variations because of the mountainous interior.  In March it is pleasant and warm on the coast, with occasional rain. Towards the end of the month there is the occasional harsh wind or 'Khamsin' which blows up from Egypt.  In the mountains it is generally colder, but with sunny days, and there is still snow on the higher peaks. 

Namibia

Namibia is located in the tropics and is an all-year-round destination which is mostly rain-free.  From January to March, there are occasional showers but these don't usually last long.  It is generally hot during the day, but noticeably cooler at night.  For birders, these months see the arrival of migrating birds from Europe and elsewhere; the Caprivi Strip in particular is a fantastic area to visit during these months..

Nepal

February to May are excellent months to visit Nepal.  This is the end of the dry season and days should be sunny, dry and warm with good visibility.

Sr Lanka

Sri Lanka's temperature varies little throughout the year, with maximum day-time temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, with the minimum usually above 20 degrees.  It is generally slightly cooler in the hills.  March should be sunny and dry.

Syria

This is the tail end of the winter, so it can be cold, especially at night.  Generally, however, days should be warm, bright and sunny with minimal rain, so this is a good time to visit Syria.

Tanzania

Generally speaking the highlands (where the gameviewing takes place) enjoy a temperate climate, whilst the coast is hot and humid year round.  March is a dry period and one of the best times to visit.Towards the end of the month, the rains begin to appear.

Thailand

March is the beginning of the hot season, with temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius.  Rain is always a possibility.

Tibet

We do not recommend travelling to Tibet at this time of the year.  Best months are May to September.

Uzbekistan

The winter in Uzbekistan is severe.  We do not recommend you travel at this time.

  

  

Vietnam

There is no ideal time to visit Vietnam as there are distinct regional variations between the Northern, Central and Southern regions.  March is one of the best times to go as it is one of the driest times of the year, although there can be occasional rain showers around Hue and Hoi An.
