Mayfair Hotel, Darjeeling
India Holidays - Roof terrace, Mayfair Hotel
The Mayfair Hotel in Darjeeling was originally built as a summerhouse for the Maharaja of Nazargunjr and enjoys an excellent central location just opposite the Governor's House on the Mall Road.
The hotel has 31 tastefully-appointed rooms with modern amenities. There is a choice of 5 attic rooms with wooden floors and sloping ceilings (below left), 6 deluxe rooms, or 20 English-style cottages. All rooms are ensuite and have colour TV, direct dial telephone, 24-hour hot and cold running water, and a fireplace (it gets cool at night at this altitude whatever the time of year).
For dining there is Tiffany Restaurant offering a choice of Continental, Chinese and Indian cuisine. The hotel's Library Bar (below) is well-stocked with cocktails of different brands, and you can also dip into the extensive library itself while sipping your drink.
The Mayfair has a Spa & Fitness Centre, a snooker room, a money exchange, internet connectivity, and offers same day laundry facilities.
