Gaun Ghar (which means 'village house') is situated in the pleasant hill town of Bandipur. The original Newari house has been renovated into a heritage hotel which preserves the traditional architecture and ambience; during the restoration every consideration has been taken to bring the house back to its original state.
Gaun Ghar offers 15 beautifully restored rooms with attached bathrooms and serene views of the mountains and the town.
Solar panels are used for the hotel's heating system.
You may eat in the well-restored indoor restaurant, or on the open balcony at the rear of the hotel which faces the Himalayan peaks (below). The kitchen employs well trained local chefs, using wherever possible organic food. All fruits and vegetables are purchased from the local community.
The majority of the staff are local people, and the community was also involved in the restoration work on the hotel, with local craftsmen and artisans using traditional architectural techniques.
