The Oberoi Philae

The Oberoi Philae

The Oberoi Philae on the Nile near Luxor

Personal View

Melanie Legge, who travelled on the Oberoi Philae with World Discovery

Having one's own balcony was a definite plus - we enjoyed our early morning tea out there in complete privacy. And when it came to mooring up alongside, it was so nice not to be in serried ranks with 5 other boats. Maybe I missed it, but does your website underline the point that the Oberoi Philae has its own private moorings at each stop? Anyway, the boat was lovely, the crew delightful and friendly... All the visits to temples went like clockwork. I rather wished there had been a little more time between each visit to let the previous one sink in properly before the next one filled the memory bank. The felucca ride to Kitchener's Island was a highlight too.

The Oberoi Philae offers guests a cruise on the Nile passing by the fabulous landmarks of an ancient civilisation. Elegant interiors with teak paneling, parquet floors, European antiques and Oriental carpets create an ambience of luxury. Excellent recreational and dining facilities make the journey pleasurable. Impeccable service and a beautiful setting come together to make this a voyage of discovery. This excellent cruise ship was recently voted amongst the Top Ten Cruises in the World by readers of the Condé Nast Traveller magazine.

All cabins and suites are fully equipped to ensure the comfort and security of guests. Elegantly upholstered furniture, decorative ironwork on the balconies and rich fabrics and carpets lend an air of the British country house to the interiors. Each cabin has its own private balcony and sun loungers allowing peaceful contemplation of the ever changing views.

All cabins feature private bathrooms, temperature controls, minibar, remote control TV, radios, computerized telephone system, safes and spacious wardrobes. The very highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness are observed throughout.A purified water supply and updated fire safety systems are installed on board. A misty system on the sun deck protects guests from excessive summer heat.

Cabins and suites are arranged on 3 decks, all with river views. Accommodation comprises:

  • 4 Single deluxe cabins (19.75 sq.m.) - ideal for the solo traveller
  • 50 Double deluxe cabins, with double or twin beds (21.75 sq.m.)
  • 4 Deluxe Suites (38 sq.m.)

The quoted size of all cabins includes the balcony.

A number of interconnecting sets are available for larger family groups of adults. There are very limited facilities for children.

The Oberoi Philae enjoys the luxury of its own private moorings at each destination, avoiding the crowded and somewhat noisy conditions that most Nile Cruise ships face when they are forced to moor next to each other in groups of 5 or 6 at a time.
