DAY 1 - Depart UK.
Recommended flight from London: British Airways from London Heathrow to Johannesburg, with an onward connection to Maun in Botswana (see below). If you are travelling from a country other than the UK we would be happy to give you guidance on your flight options.
DAYS 2 AND 3 - The Okavango Delta.
On arrival in Maun you will be
met by a representative of World Discovery and taken by specially chartered
light aircraft to Nxabega Airstrip in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Botswana's
world-renowned wilderness region which has become the country's principal
tourist attraction. A safari vehicle will be waiting to take you to your
campsite. Tucked under massive trees,
this campsite is situated in an area with a number of permanent river
channels. You will spend two nights at this
exclusive campsite in a private concession area with a complement of camp staff
to cater for your needs. Explore the crystal-clear lagoons, islands and shallow
waterways of the Delta by mekoro
(dug-out canoe) and enjoy gameviewing walks on the islands. The area
supports large numbers of wildlife, including elephants, wildebeests, zebras,
giraffes, antelopes, innumerable birds, and lots of hippos and
crocodiles. Awaken each morning to the chorus of birds or the chattering
of monkeys and linger in the comfort of your fully sized bed as you listen to
the sound of your hot bucket shower being filled with steaming hot water.
Meals included: Lunch,
dinner on DAY 2, full breakfast, lunch, dinner on DAY 3.
DAYS 4 AND 5 - Moremi Reserve
Continue
by light aircraft to Khwai, located in the northern area of Moremi Wildlife Reserve,
which covers approximately a third of the Okavango Delta. Set aside in 1963 by the Batawana tribe, the
reserve is rated as Africa's most beautiful
wildlife sanctuary. Spend your days on extensive and interpretive game drives,
and two nights camping in the reserve. Moremi is home to the 'Big Five'
(lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros) and also has the largest population
of red lechwe (a variety of antelope), as well as one of the largest remaining
populations of African Wild Dogs. Moremi is also a paradise for
birdwatchers.
Pictured: it's not just the tourists that travel around by mekoro!
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner.
DAYS 6 AND 7 - Chobe National Park (Savute).
Travel
overland to Savute
(a journey of 5 to 6 hours with gameviewing en route – excellent for lion and
other predators). You will spend two nights camping next to the dry Savute
Channel in an area renowned for sightings of lion and other predators. The
landscape around Savute is starkly beautiful, with an arid, almost desert-like
feel. Mopane forest gives way to acacia
savanna with rocky outcrops. Large areas
of marshland that extended from the Linyanti
River have dried up along with Savute River,
but several artificial watering holes attract a high concentration of wildlife.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner each day.
DAYS 8 AND 9 - Chobe National Park (Serondela).
Travel to northern Chobe (4 to 5 hours overland game drive), where you will camp for two nights in the Serondela area. This is the heart of elephant country and you may spend many hours watching the huge herds in and around the Chobe River on game drives or private boat cruises. Northern Chobe is renowned for its large variety of bird and animal life, beautiful scenery and magnificent sunsets.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner each day.
DAY 10 - Victoria Falls.
It is a short drive from Chobe National Park to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe (pictured left), where you will welcome the chance to wash off Botswana's dust, relax over a cold beer, and enjoy the varied entertainment and facilities at &Beyond Matetsi Water Lodge after a tour of the Falls (entrance fee to the Falls is included). The falls, known locally as "Mosi oa Tunya" (The Smoke that Thunders), were seen by David Livingstone in 1855 and named after the reigning monarch. Victoria Falls is the largest single sheet of water in the world , over 100 metres tall, and over one mile wide.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner.
DAY 11 - Depart for home.
After breakfast transfer to Victoria Falls International Airport for your homeward flight.
Meals included: Full breakfast.
DAY 12 - Arrive home.
Morning arrival at London Heathrow.
