DAY 1 – Arrival in Yellowknife.

On arrival in Yellowknife, capital of the Northwest Territories, take a taxi (not included) to your centrally-located hotel. Recommended flights: Air Canada from London Heathrow via Calgary (see below).

DAY 2 – Flight to Cambridge Bay.

Take the morning Canadian North flight (duration: 2 hours 20 minutes) to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, located on the historic Northwest Passage. Your hotel in Cambridge Bay is owned by the local Inuit cooperative, who provide a shuttle bus transfer from the airport. The afternoon is at leisure.

DAY 3 – Cambridge Bay. Float Plane to Elu Inlet.

In the morning enjoy a walking tour of Cambridge Bay ('Ikaluktutiak' or 'good fishing place' in the local dialect). There is an abundance of wildlife here including musk oxen, caribou, fish, waterfowl and seals. The tundra in July is brilliantly flowered and there are many tundra birds and waterfowl to be seen. Cambridge Bay is also home to the Arctic Coast Visitors' Centre which features Inuit history, arts and culture. In the afternoon board your specially-chartered float plane for the thrilling flight to Elu Inlet and the remote Elu Inlet Lodge, your home for the next 5 nights. Enjoy tea and a bannock on arrival as your bags are taken to your room. After dinner there will be a short hike in the surrounding countryside.
Meals included: Dinner.

In April 2009 ELU INLET LODGE was selected as one of National Geographic Traveler's "50 Tours of a Lifetime".

DAYS 4 to 7 – Elu Inlet.

Four memorable days of discovery at the lodge. Activities include hiking, expeditions by boat and learning about the local culture. Explored by foot, the land surrounding Elu Inlet Lodge holds many treasures; experience magnificent vistas, breathtaking geological outcroppings, wildlife including musk oxen and the potentially barren ground grizzly (pictured left), and also visit ancient Thule and Dorset archa eological sites. Weather conditions may dictate hikes occurring in the area immediately surrounding the Lodge or in areas better accessible by boat. A five passenger skiff is used for boat exploration. Circumnavigate islands investigating gull rookeries and falcon nests. You will be surrounded by ancient untouched landscapes. On shore excursions hike in search of musk oxen and other wildlife. You will get to meet local Inuit artists who will share their interesting lives and explain the creation and meaning of their unique native art forms.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner each day.

DAY 8 – Return to Cambridge Bay.

In the afternoon you will return by chartered float plane for an overnight stay in Cambridge Bay.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch.

DAY 9 – Cambridge Bay. Fly back to Yellowknife.

Most of the day is free in Cambridge Bay. In the late afternoon return by air to Yellowknife.

DAY 10 – Depart for London.

Transfer to the airport for your homeward journey.

DAY 11 - Arrive UK.

Arrive UK in the morning.
