excluding international flights

DAY 1 - Depart UK.

On arrival in Arusha (Kilimanjaro International Airport) you will be met by a representative of World Discovery and taken by private vehicle to your hotel.  Here you will meet your fellow group members and enjoy a welcome dinner.  Recommended flight from London: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines from London Heathrow via Amsterdam.  If you are travelling from a country other than the UK we would be happy to give you guidance on your flight options.
Meals included: Dinner.

DAY 2 - Fly into Serengeti National Park.

This morning fly into the remote Western Serengeti.  The world-famous Serengeti plains offer the most spectacular gathering of wildlife on earth.  This area of 'endless plains' (the literal meaning of serengit in the Maasai tongue) covers nearly 15,000 square kilometres and its vast expanse provides an exceptional landscape for wildlife viewing.  Afternoon game drive before staying overnight at one of the most luxurious camps in East Africa.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 3 - Central Serengeti.

Drive into the central area of the Serengeti; you will have two full days in this amazing area.  Millions of animals and birds thrive in the vast savannah and hilly woodland; you should see varied and plentiful species of plains game - lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, elephant, hippo, giraffe and numerous fascinating lesser known animals.  The Serengeti may be best known for its great annual migration, but the resident populations of animals are excellent all year round.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Pictured above: wildebeest crossing the Mara River during the annual migration.

DAY 4 - Central Serengeti.

OPTIONAL BALLOON RIDE: Please click on the link for details.
A day of further gameviewing in the Serengeti.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 5 - Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater.

After breakfast depart for the Ngorongoro Crater National Preserve, stopping en route at the Olduvai Gorge, where Professor Louis Leakey and his wife Mary discovered 3.5-million year old hominid footprints, some of the earliest excavated evidence of human existence.  There is a small museum at the spot displaying the footprints.  The Ngorongoro Crater is a caldera (or collapsed volcano) and is an incredible environment in which to view the animals within its natural amphitheatre.  Your lodge is located on the rim of the crater with spectacular views of the crater floor below, including Lake Magadi, which provides a year-round supply od fresh water for the wildlife.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 6 - The Ngorongoro Crater.

Today you will enjoy a full day in the Ngorongoro Crater, travelling by 4x4 vehicle down into the heart of an area that has been described as 'Africa's Garden of Eden'.  You will see large herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle; elephant, buffalo, hippo and lion are also plentiful.   Ngorongoro is possibly the best place on earth to see the rare black rhino (pictured right); this is one of the very few areas where they continue to breed in the wild.
Meals included: Full breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner.

DAY 7 - Drive to Lake Manyara.

This morning you will drive into the Rift Valley to stay at Lake Manyara, home to huge numbers of migratory flamingos.  In the afternoon there will be a game drive in this scenic national park, which is particularly good for birdwatching.  It is also famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions.
Meals included: Full breakfast, lunch, dinner.

DAY 8 - Lake Manyara.  Depart for UK.

Before breakfast there will be a final game drive.  Return to Arusha.  In the evening transfer to the airport for your homeward journey.
Meals included: Full breakfast.

DAY 9 - Arrive UK.

Morning arrival in the UK.
