During the day you will also visit some of the magnificent Royal Tombs of the all-powerful Nguyen dynasty who ruled over Vietnam in the 19th century and who switched the capital from Hanoi to Hue. The tomb of the Emperor Tu Doc is perhaps the most memorable, with elegant pavilions reflected in serene lakes.

Hoi An is renowned for its handicrafts, traditional Chinese merchant houses and temples. The historic centre of this charming town is lined with wooden-fronted shop-houses and this is one of the best places in Vietnam for souvenirs. Pictured is the unusual Japanese Covered Bridge (originally built in the 16th century) which has become the town's emblem.
