Rainforest Edge, Sinharaja
This small 7-room eco-lodge close to the Sinharaja Raionforest takes you back to nature, with the use of solar power, an organic farm, and no television or telephones. Enjoy true Sri Lankan hospitality, as the lodge is run in cooperation with the local villagers, who grow the fruits and vegetables (without the use of pesticides or chemical manure) that are served by the lodge. You are encouraged to dine under the stars, enjoying freshly prepared
Sri Lankan food, listening to the birdsong. Villagers are invited to
conduct traditional Sri Lankan cookery lessons for guests.
There is a rainwater swimming pool, surrounded by water lilies. The
Ayuvedic wellness centre, under the supervision of an Ayurvedic medical
practitioner provides a range of curative and relaxing therapies using
medicines and oils made from medicinal plants grown locally.
Accommodation (below) is comfortable rather than luxurious, with ensuite facilities, including a solar-heated hot shower. The energy source is a unique combination of solar energy, mains electricity and lanterns (lamps with Kerosene). You have the choice of using the light of the electric bulb or the lantern for reading. There are tea/coffee making facilities in each room.
When not exploring Sinharaja Biosphere, you can borrow mountain bikes or take a walk through the local village.
