Ranthambhor National Park

Located close to the town of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, Ranthambhor National Park is the most accessible of India's game parks to the popular 'Golden Triangle' circuit of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.  Originally a hunting estate for the Maharajah of Jaipur, Ranthambhor became a National Park under 'Project Tiger' in 1972.  Rules for visiting the park have changed frequently over the years, and at the moment the only way to enter the park is aboard the government-controlled 'canters' - open topped buses seating 20 passengers.  Not ideal for gameviewing but there is currently no alternative.  Ranthambhor is famous for its tiger population, but you may also see leopard, sloth bear, sambar, Indian gazelle, wild boar, nilgai and hundreds of birds, including the serpent eagle.  Morning and afternoon game drives are taken each day.
