Krak des Chevaliers
PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR
The imposing crusader castle of Krak des Chevaliers (also known by its Arabic name Qala'at al-Hosn) was described by T. E. Lawrence as simply "the finest castle in the world" and it is certainly one of the best-preserved, testimony to the skills of the crusader monks who built it. The castle dates from the 12th century, although an earlier fortress stood at this strategic location a century earlier, built by the Emir of Homs. Within the castle, one of the most interesting parts is the old chapel (pictured right), which was later converted into a mosque.
