Palmyra
PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR
Visit the impressive ruins of Palmyra, city of Queen Zenobia, an extensive site in a superb desert setting with an abandoned hilltop Arab castle as a dramatic backdrop. Originally known as Tadmor, this great caravan city is first mentioned in texts dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. It flourished under the Assyrians, Greeks and Romans and has a wealth of attractions including the Temple of Bel (the most complete structure at the site), an impressive colonnaded street entered through a monumental arch, and a well-preserved theatre. You will also visit the Necropolis with its unique and mysterious tower tombs (see example, below), where coffins were placed in pigeonhole-like niches up to four storeys high.
Includes private transportation, guide and entrance fees.
