The Victoria Express
Exclusively reserved for guests staying at the Victoria Sapa Resort & Spa, the Victoria Express train operates between Hanoi and Lao Cai six times a week (there are no Saturday departures in either direction). The journey takes 8 hours and 30 minutes. A dining carriage - "Le Tonkin" (below left) - is attached on some days of the week (the World Discovery 'Jewels of the North' itinerary is based on the train having this facility in both directions). The capacity of the train is 52 passengers.
With its elegant carriages, the Victoria Express Train recalls a more romantic era. Passing through the exotic landscapes of North Vietnam, between the charming cities of Hanoi and Lao Cai (train station at a distance of 34 km/21 miles from Sapa), it offers every visitor a wonderful travelling experience.
Each sleeping carriage has 6 superior cabins (4 berths)* and 1 deluxe cabin (2 berths). All are air-conditioned, wood panelled, with individual reading lights, baggage storage, toilets and large picture windows.
* The price for World Discovery's 'Jewels of the North' itinerary is based on sharing in a 4 berth Superior Cabin on the Victoria Express. If you wish to upgrade to a 2-berth Deluxe Cabin (subject to availability) the supplement is £70 per person for the return journey. There are only two of these Deluxe Cabins on the train so early booking is essential.
