My Son
The evocative ruins of My Son date from the Cham era and have been awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO. They lie some 55 kilometres southwest of Hoi An in a bowl of thickly wooded hills. Excavations show that Cham kings were buried here as early as the 4th century AD, although most of the buildings you see today are from several centuries later. Forgotten for centuries, the ruins were rediscovered by French archaeologists in the late 19th century. Restoration work is still ongoing.
