Jetwing Warwick Gardens, Ambewela
Located on the edge of the island’s highland plains, Jetwing Warwick
Gardens is 45 minutes from the hill station town of Nuwara Eliya. A
painstakingly renovated colonial tea planter’s bungalow on a six acre
tea plantation, it offers stunning views to
the south on clear days.
Jetwing Warwick Gardens has just five
rooms within a bungalow atmosphere whilst affording utmost privacy to
guests. With its cosy lounge with a wood burning fireplace and grand piano, and an elegant dining area, Jetwing Warwick
Gardens is a step back in time and epitomises personalised service and
attention to detail. Outdoor dining on crisp days is a treat and the
property’s organic garden supplies much of the vegetables on the menu.
All five rooms at Jetwing Warwick Gardens are individually decorated and
have their own characteristic charm, either overlooking the front
gardens and the mountains beyond or the herb gardens at the back. Most
of the furniture within the rooms are antiques, and four of the rooms have
wood burning fireplaces.
The Warwick Suite (pictured below) is the master
suite and is named after the original owner of the house. With a king
sized antique four poster bed it provides an amazing views of the front
gardens, tea estate and mountains, and its bathroom features a Victorian
style bathtub and hot shower.
The Netherleigh Suite, also called
the 'White Room', is novel in that it is
accessed through a discreet doorway behind a tapestry on a landing of
the wooden stairway and provides a romantic hideaway with a king size
bed.
The Breamaer Suite offers twin beds,
and faces the vegetable gardens with views of the mountains behind it.
The Oakleigh Suite has a Queen size bed and an ensuite bathroom with
bathtub and hot shower and is located on the upper floor overlooking the
herb garden. The Glenoch Suite is very similar to Oakleigh but is
situated on the ground floor with its windows opening out to the herb
gardens.
The hotel offers a range of dining experiences that include an a la carte menu in the dining room, outdoor dining on the lawn or a romantic garden barbeque. A typical English breakfast in bed or on the lawn, with fresh milk and eggs from the property’s farm, is a definite must do. A collection of wines and spirits are available in the lounge. High tea on the lawn or in the lounge offers factory fresh tea and an assortment of delicious cakes and pastries.
